About the Rewind Technique:

A Simple and Safe Approach to Trauma Therapy

“Wow! A day or two after Rewind I felt lighter. I haven’t thought about it at all, it feels like it never happened. It has really benefited me and taken a massive weight off my shoulders.”

Why is Trauma Therapy So Hard?

Traditional trauma therapy is usually hard because it involves repeatedly and intrusively confronting your traumatic event, triggering the brain’s natural fight, flight or freeze response. This makes it very hard to do and it plays havoc with your emotions.

This repetitive process leaves you exhausted and emotionally drained, until a point in the therapy process where your brain no longer has that natural response when recalling the memory.

Rewind Technique: A Non-Intrusive Alternative

Rewind Therapy offers relief while avoiding the suffering of traditional methods. It does this through the use of two key features:

1.   Non-disclosure

The Muss Rewind technique is referred to as “Closure without disclosure”, because talking about the details of your traumatic event is not a necessary component of the treatment.

You will only be required to share information on how you are currently affected by the event (symptoms, daily life etc…), and possibly some context depending on your situation to ensure you receive the best possible outcome.

2.   Dissociation

When recalling the traumatic memory, you will be asked to imagine watching the event on a screen as a recording. This achieves the effect of you being less emotionally attached to the trauma, and can enable you to go through the treatment without becoming upset.

To understand this better, imagine yourself on a rollercoaster being thrown about moving really fast, upside down and around tight bends.

Now imagine you exit the ride and see the TV screen on the way out.

You are now watching a recording of yourself on the rollercoaster…

It doesn’t feel the same does it?

Why are these features beneficial?

These features working together, almost entirely eliminate the risk of you being re-traumatised during therapy sessions.

It positions the Rewind technique as a much safer and more comfortable approach compared to other therapies where you are often expected to:

a. Openly talk about details of your traumatic event or...

b. Confront the memory directly in a harsh manner or…

c. To do both.

While Rewind’s features can of course benefit anyone seeking to overcome any past trauma, they are particularly helpful for individuals with experiences that are difficult to vocalise or deal with directly, such as first-responder, combat or sexual-related events.

Other Benefits of the Rewind Technique

Fast and Simple

The majority of clients require just one treatment session of the Rewind technique to be cured of their PTSD symptoms.

On rare occasions, a second session may be needed if the treatment hasn’t worked the first time.

My personal Rewind treatment protocol is usually complete in less than a month from the day you start your treatment with me, however, it is very likely you will start to feel better much sooner than that.

Most people report significant improvements within the first week after the treatment session, and some even experience same-day or next-day results!

“I'm amazed, I genuinely noticed a difference so quickly. Literally the next day”

Highly Effective

An overall estimated success rate of over 95%* for Rewind therapy ensures that it easily surpasses many other forms of trauma treatment on this front (*Information collected from a survey of 80 IARTT Accredited Practitioners).

The fact that there is just one treatment session (very occasionally two), means there is no “dropout rate” from the therapy which validates this high success rate.

Visit the IARTT's Case Histories page to see hundreds of different personal experiences Rewind has worked for, and the drastic improvements in people’s well-being recorded after a 2-week or 3-month follow-up.

“Rewind was incredibly effective! This made an enormous difference almost straight away which I am immensely grateful for! Something I have already recommended to others!”

Going back to the question of…

Why is Trauma Therapy so Hard?

Traditional trauma interventions often require you to jump through more hoops than are necessary for you to see similar, or possibly inferior results than those provided by the Muss Rewind technique.

Combined with the intrusive nature of other approaches, their additional requirements can result in you suffering more, over a longer period than is needed.

The Muss Rewind technique’s steps cut the duration of treatment down to the essential minimum, so you waste no time achieving closure and peace.

What is the 3-step Rewind Process?

Step 1:

Prior to the 1st session, there will be a FREE telephone assessment using an IES form (Impact of Event Scale) which provides a score to see if Rewind is appropriate for you, and to understand how you continue to be affected by your trauma now.

This also provides a measure for comparison after treatment to explicitly show that Rewind has worked.

If Rewind is appropriate for you, the first session will be booked.

The first session is an opportunity for me to understand how your trauma impacts your daily life. I will clarify what the Rewind process involves, answer any questions you may have, and offer some psychoeducation on what happens in our body when we experience something traumatic or stressful.

I will then introduce you to some easy-to-learn relaxation techniques and tips that quickly calm your body when triggered, which we can use during the sessions if appropriate. You can also use these simple techniques outside of the session if you need to.

Step 2:

The second session is the treatment session where we will use the Rewind technique.

If you are open to the idea, I may use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to regulate your emotions if necessary, to ensure you feel calm throughout treatment. (Visit The Tapping Solution for more on EFT).

Step 3:

The third session (usually two weeks later) involves repeating an IES assessment to see if your score has reduced, and a discussion about what you have noticed since having the treatment.

If the score has reduced to or below the set threshold, and you are no longer suffering, your treatment is complete.

If the score has not reduced sufficiently, or you are still suffering, the technique will be repeated in this same session and a further follow-up assessment will be arranged.

This 3-step process relates to single-event traumas.

Multi-event traumas such as combat or domestic abuse can be dealt with individually for each traumatic event over separate sessions, or may possibly be dealt with in one session depending on the situation; this can be discussed during the initial assessment.

“After all three of my Rewind treatments (on three different traumas), I felt a sense of peace and relief.”

Potential Limitation of the Rewind Technique:

When looking at the effectiveness of Rewind and the success it has had so far, it is safe to say that the technique itself has very few limitations.

The main concern around its efficacy lies with the competency and experience of the Practitioner delivering the therapy.

Not having a trauma-informed Practitioner to guide you through the technique could result in a higher risk of re-traumatisation, a lower likelihood of success, and failure to refer you to more appropriate therapy when needed.

Avoid potential problems by choosing a Therapist who you trust is qualified to use this incredible intervention, so you can get the full benefit it offers.
